Tyler will be playing a show for the grand opening of a new restaurant in Stillwater Minnesota called The Kitchen. this should be a fun night of amazing food and music!
wow the summer has just flown by! i have been out on the road playing guitar with my good friend Mat Kearney for the past four months and it has been so so fun! it has been really cool to see how people are responding to Mat's new songs and to be a part of making Mat's visions for the songs come together in the live setting. i have not had much time to work on my own music lately but i have been writing here and there and hopefully i can put a new project out some time early 2010. i will be out on the road with Mat Kearney this fall but i will try to do better to let everyone know what i am up to. :) you can come to my website (of course) but you can also go to MATKEARNEY.COM to see what we are up to. i have posted a bunch of videos from the past four months in the 'Videos" section for your viewing enjoyment. talk to you soon!

hello! - March 20, 2009
hello everyone! i know it has been a while since the last update but i am still alive! ha. i have been pretty busy lately and i have slacked off a bit on the journaling...and for that i am sorry. we are finally starting to thaw out after a bitterly cold winter up here in minnesota and it is so nice to see the sun again! :) a while back i got an e-mail from a film director in the UK named Rob Brown who liked the song "Hurricane" and he thought that clips from one of his films would be great to use as a music video for the song. i thought that could be a cool idea. here is the video that he put together. enjoy! let me know what you think about it.
2008 was a year full of trials and triumphs. almost a year to the day on a cold dark morning in january i packed my family up in a rental van with a bunch of guitars and drove down to nashville to make my first record. i had no idea what the year would bring or how everything would work out. looking back now the struggles seem small and the victories sweet. i put the record on today and gave it a listen and i think we succeeded in making the record we sought out to make...a record of simple and honest songs played by people who enjoy making music with each other. this may be the end of yet another year but it is only the beginning. i want to take this time to thank all my dear friends in nashville, and minneapolis for the all the inspiration, encouragement, support and for making my family's life so sweet...there are too many to name...you know who you are!...it blows me away to have friends like you! paul, will, matt, and cason, thank you for giving your time and for pouring your hearts into the making of Darling, Maybe Someday! thank you to everyone who came out to shows and supported my music this past year...it means SO SO much! i will be doing more shows in the new year and putting a bunch of new songs into the rotation. last but certainly not least i want to thank my family for truly making this past year so sweet...i don't know what i what do with out you...every morning i wake up and even the mundane and routine seem to present new and exciting opportunities. on that note i want to leave you with a beautiful poem by Ted Kooser.
"If you can awaken
inside the familiar
and discover it new
you need never
leave home."
may all of you in this new year awaken inside the familiar and discover it new in all it's sweetness....Happy New Year!

hot mic... - October 21, 2008
so last night i played a show and there was some electrical problems to say the least. everytime i put my mouth on the mic it was like i got stung on the lip by a thousand hornets...okay so that may be a bit of an exageration but you get the point. there i was singing one of my love dovey missing home songs and the moment i would get comfortable and my lip would touch the mic i would catch a nasty shock to the face, yay!! hooray for facial electrocution!!!! that is one way to get a facelift. ha. it may not have been the best show technically speaking but it was still very fun. my cousins are in a band called skypiper and they were on the bill as well and they were great. so all in all it was a great night. afterwords we went to a friends house for pie and like 1am. pie will always cheer you up if you are blue. as usual i am starting to ramble so i will quit while i am ahead. ha.

attack of the taco part three...the never ending saga - October 5, 2008
last night i played at the bryant lake bowl in minneapolis. i love that place! it is one of the few places you can get some really good food see a concert or a play and go bowling...cool. i played before my friend aaron espe which is always a treat because he is so genuine and his voice and melodies are so tender and honest...yeah i said tender...i am an artist so it is okay for me to be vulnerable like that...oh crap...i just vulnerable didn't i...i better quit while i am ahead... and right after i write this blog i am going to go chop some wood or something else that is "manly" HAHA. seriously though check out his music, it is so worth buying(i have his cd in my cd player alarm clock now). it was nice to see some familiar faces and play a quiet show with just me and my trusty gibson acoustic. after the show i waged yet another battle against my arch enemy...the taco supreme...i am not proud i assure you...i wish i could say i won but i got schooled by that dirty taco!!! so deliciously schooled i might add. ha. tyler 1 taco 1 to be continued... i hope to start putting up some songs recorded at live shows as free downloads sometime in the near future on my website, will see though that kind of stuff is always easier said than done but i am going to try my best. wow this election has been so entertaining!!! it is like watching reality tv for a year straight...wow. i hate all the bickering and name calling but you have to admit the drama is pretty entertaining though. a couple posts back i put up a link to register to vote that happened to be blue and i actually got some angry e-mails just because the button was blue! haha. seriously? i can't believe that people would get ticked about something like that. too funny. on a lighter note, i had three peices of pie tonight(mmm pie) and i can already see the title of my next post ATTACK OF THE PIE part 1, volume 1. i don't know why i write so much about food but i don't plan stopping anytime soon. i hope read this journal entry and laugh...goodnight!

matzah ball soup, death cabs, sushi and Conan O’Brien - September 12, 2008
last night i got to play guitar for my friend Meiko on the Conan O'Brien show last night which was so cool! tv shows can be so stressful especially when you are the artist because so much weight is on your shoulders but she did an amazing job and knocked it out of the park..that is not an easy thing to do! her record just came out so go out and get it...now! i have had so much fun getting to know the rest of the guys in the band and i am blown away by how talented and they all are...wow. while i have been in New York i have made sure to get a good bowl of matzah ball soup (you have to when you are in NYC) a huge pastrami sandwhich that i almost didn't finish...i said almost...ha...and no trip to New York would be complete without a ride in a yellow checkered death coffin also known as a taxicab. this week was amazing, i got got play a great song with great people on one of my favorite tv shows and get to shake Conan's hand then hop in a limo that took us to a place that had some seriously mind blowing sushi and then watch Conan back at my hotel with a good friend from minneapolis who happened to be in town...just another typical day in the life...yeah right. i am just so, so, thankful to get to do what i do with such amazing people! i just can't contain my thankfulness. i love New York and there is no place in the world like it but i have to say i am looking forward to going home to my sweet little family back in minny. thanks for letting me share special week with you guys.

attack of the taco part deux - September 9, 2008
wow...i had no idea how much the midnight taco would resonate so much with so many of you. thanks for all of the e-mails, i didn't know that this was such an important issue to our nation...ha. just to let you know i defeated the evil taco monster shortly after i wrote the previous entry. tyler 1...taco zero. i cannot say that the taco monster didn't go down with out a fight, because that would be a lie. the taco monster is a formidable foe that is to be sure but after so many years on the road i am a taco gladiator of sorts so i am used this kind warfare. i have know idea why i have written two of the most stupid blogs ever but i don't plan ..ping anytime soon. one more thing before i go...never forget that taco monster is always waiting for you to have a moment of weakness around midnight...and than it strikes with all it's fury...hahahaha. this blog is so stupid...ha. i have go to quit while i still can! have a great day.

i imediately regret this decision - September 9, 2008
tonight i opened up for a guy named Brian Greenberg(from the show October road) in Minneapolis which was a lot if fun. then in a moment of weakness i stopped at taco bell after the show and got some tacos. ha ha. big mistake...now i am writing you while i crunch on some chalky stomach medicine and wonder why i had to eat tacos at midnight in the first place. oh, i know why...it is because tacos taste incredible especially at midnight! there is just something about tacos in the moonlight or the moons gravitational pull...they just taste better...i have know idea why i sharing such useless information but i am sure that out there somewhere there is some else thinking the same thing...why did i get the tacos? i dedicate this blog entry to all of my people out there blogging about nothing while they wait for their antacid medicine to kick in...ha. goodnight. ;)
